PELL Grant

PELL Grant is a need-based federal grant for low-income families. A student’s eligibility is determined through their FAFSA. The amount may change based on how many units they are taking and the amount of lifetime eligibility they have already used.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is a need-based grant for low-income families. The Master’s University offers this grant on a first-come, first-served basis based on when a student completes their FAFSA.

Cal Grant

Cal Grant is a state need-based grant for middle to low-income families. A student’s eligibility is determined by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). It is based on a student’s need presented on the FAFSA and a GPA Verification, which may vary depending on what kind of High School or College you have attended (see table below). All required documents must be completed before April 2nd, 2024.

GPA Verification:
Public SchoolsPublic High Schools are required by California Law to submit all student's GPAs to CSAC. Contact your school's registrar department to see if your GPA was sent.
Accredited Private School and Charter SchoolsAccredited Private High Schools and Charter Schools are not obligated to send a student's GPA to CSAC. If you attend a Private High School, contact your school's registrar department and ask them to send your GPA to CSAC before the April 2nd deadline. You may need to complete additional paper work with your school.
Unaccredited Private, Charter, and Home SchoolsStudent who attend Unaccredited Private, Charter, or Home schools are not eligible to turn in a GPA. You must complete a SAT or ACT score and submit it, along with a completed to CSAC.
Community CollegeStudent who have more than 24 units through a Community College are eligible to submit their college GPA to CSAC for GPA Verification. Contact your school's registrar department and ask them to send your GPA to CSAC before the April 2nd deadline. You may need to complete additional paper work with your school. NOTE: This does not apply to High School students with dual enrollment credit.
4-Year CollegeStudent's transferring from a 4-year college who have received Cal Grant in the past may transfer their Cal Grant to TMU. Make sure to complete the FAFSA and by using our school code: 001220
Federal Work Study

Federal Work Studies are part-time, need-based employment opportunities. The Master’s University offers both on and off-campus opportunities for students who qualify for Federal Work Study to apply for. Job applications begin to open on August 1st. Federal Direct Stafford Loans

All undergraduate students who complete a FAFSA are eligible for Federal Direct Stafford Loans. The amounts that a student is eligible for may vary depending on their grade level and the amount of lifetime eligibility that they have already used. Students can receive a Subsidized Stafford Loan (the government pays the interest while you are in school) and/or an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan (the government DOES NOT pay the interest while you are in school) depending on their eligibility.

Direct Parent PLUS Loans

Direct Parent PLUS Loan, The Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan, is available to parents of dependent undergraduate students. The student must be enrolled in at least six units, and the loan is limited to the cost of attendance.
